Tea Houses

Most tea houses will let you bring a dog to stay, as long as they're well behaved and house-trained — bring a bed sheet for them to sleep on, same as we've said before, and you're most of the way there already. Fair warning though: we've been turned away at maybe 1 in 100 places. No drama, no arguing — some people just don't want a dog in the building, and that's their call to make.

During high season, rooms fill up fast — with or without a dog. Where you can, take a guide who can call ahead, hold a room before you arrive, and confirm the owner's genuinely fine with dogs before you're stood at the door with one. Cities tend to be harder work than mountain villages, where dogs are just part of daily life.

Below is what we can vouch for ourselves so far, plus a couple of places worth flagging even though they're not classic trail tea houses. If you run a guesthouse, hotel, or tea house and you're happy to have dogs to stay, get in touch and we'll add you to the list.

Peace Eye Guest House

Kathmandu · not a trail tea house, but a dog-friendly place to start and end your trip in Pokhara. It's one of the few pet friendly place to stay.

Step in - Koto

Annapurna, Koto Village · common starting point for the trek and super nice with dogs.
